Our Products
Lamb
Sold by the share, grass-fed (100%), exceptional marbling obtained naturally, not by supplemental grain – our wide range of forage contributes to flavor unlike any other store-bought lamb. We collaborate closely with our processor to ensure an exceptional product.
Beef
Raised on pasture and finished with grain, sold by shares. We aim for just the right marbling to make the meat tender and tasty. Our beef tastes much better than the steakhouse quality. We coordinate with our processor to meet your custom cutting and dry-aging needs, providing you with a top-quality product.
Tallow Products
Our tallow is rendered from our lamb and beef we produce on our ranch. Each product is handcrafted in small batches. We take pride in offering quality products to our customers.
Our gentle cream treats dry, damaged skin on your face and hands without burning. It absorbs easily, is non-greasy, and a little goes a long way. Ideal for those that hate the sticky feel of lotion, especially in summer. Helps with windburn, sunburn, and doubles as a softening oil cleanser for the face. We also use our unscented cream on our baby and as a soothing balm in the early days of breastfeeding.
Our lip balm offers the same soothing feel as our tallow cream in a formulation that can withstand higher temperatures. Your lips will feel silky smooth!
Our Practices
We utilize rotational grazing for better forage utilization on our land. We incorporate a unique, more easily workable electric fencing system that uses fewer hot wire lines than is typical when grazing sheep. Sheep possess several properties that make them particularly difficult to control with electric fencing, and many expert sources suggest that our approach may not be effective in managing our herd. Through our experimentation with manipulating other electric fencing variables, such as the spacing of hot wires and electrical shock strength, we have developed a method that is feasible for frequent relocation. We have also invented a product that we use on our farm to hold the rails for rotational grazing, allowing us to utilize t-posts and an adjustable slip-over design that enables modification of the spacing at end-pole assemblies for varied terrain.
We mow our pastures to promote better grass and forage growth, rather than relying on routine herbicide use for weed management. Our sheep eat a much better variety of forage, including leaves off of woody species, than what our picky cows choose to eat.
We take a unique approach to medical intervention. We do vaccinate our animals with a standard CD&T vaccine, typically at weaning. We routinely track our herd’s health and inspect our sheep for the need for de-wormer use based on Famacha scoring. When deworming is necessary, we utilize practices that contribute to minimizing the risk of parasiticide resistance. We wean animals late, for better growth at earlier life stages, and we castrate our male sheep. While working with our animals, we incorporate low-stress working strategies to minimize stress on the animal. This philosophy of low-stress working is carried into the strategy of preparing the animal to load up for transport for processing. The processor we use treats our animals with respect, beginning at the unloading, and carried through the process to packaging and pickup. We cannot say enough good things about our processors; we are lucky to know them. Our animals are a gift from God to nourish our bodies and our customers’ bodies, so we treat them with the respect that the gift giver deserves.
Our Mission
We raise premium 100% grass-fed lamb and pasture-raised, grain-finished beef utilizing rotational grazing and regenerative agricultural practices. Our core proposition is that raising an animal on a forage diet in a low-stress, low-inflammatory state yields meat that is healthier to consume. We established our ranch to provide healthier meat for our growing family, and our goal is to offer the same option to families without the facilities or ability to raise their own meat.
Growing up, the best meat that I ever ate was meat that my family raised on our farm. While it is often more convenient to obtain commercially available meat in stores, it does not always taste good. We set out to raise better-tasting and healthier meat through improved animal-raising practices, surpassing those employed in large-scale ranching operations. Our family wanted to consume meat that was ethically raised, on our beautiful ranch, not meat that is raised in filthy conditions amongst thousands of other animals. The solution to the problems with our unhealthy food supply lies in the proliferation of small farms that produce large amounts of high-quality food. Our current system does the opposite, making a lot of low-quality food with ever fewer farms. Our politicians are continually lobbied by an increasingly consolidated number of large food producers, who essentially pay for legislation that limits the freedom of small farms and ranches to compete with them.
For the health of our citizens, we need healthier food. Suppose you eat an animal raised in confinement, fed a feed mixture designed solely to produce rapid gains, in a feed lot that can be smelled from many miles away. In that case, it's a wonder why so many people are experiencing the effects of poor health from the food they consume. If you eat an obese, pre-diabetic animal, is it any wonder why you may be becoming obese and prediabetic yourself? Not all meat is created equally. Often, beef, lamb, or chicken gets lumped into one category, regardless of the inputs into the meat. If you compare a sample of our lamb or beef to its commercially available counterpart, the meat is different. The meat is healthier. Consume a sick animal, and you will become ill.
To illustrate this point, consider the meat smell challenge: when you receive our meat, take it out of its packaging and compare it to the same type of meat you purchase at your local grocery store. I dare you!
